Now, Sarah is back home and they are continuing to shield until May 2021, a year after her transplant. They return to the hospital twice a week. As they live over two hours away, Sarah and Mum stay the night before nearby the hospital at CLIC House, a CLIC Sargent Home from Home.

Sarah had a life-saving transplant from her brother after her cancer returned before lockdown. She stayed in hospital until July and was only allowed one parent on the ward. Her Dad would travel from their home in Cornwall to Bristol hospital twice a week to see her.

“Everything was fine, we were discharged and started a new life, as everyone does…then her cough got worse, and I thought that’s not a good sign it was exactly like the first time. I asked for bloods again two weeks later and it came back quite bad so the leukaemia relapsed.”
