We know it's hot out. We know you "did this as a kid and it was so fun!" But... DO NOT OPEN HYDRANTS. It's illegal & unsafe, can cause issues for firefighters, and the water pressure can injure small children. Report opened hydrants to police and the Water Dept. at 717-291-4816.

REMINDER - the second regular monthly City Council meetings in July and August have been cancelled. There will be no City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 23. The next regular City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, August 13.

Music Friday on Friday, July 19 has been cancelled. The Historic Lancaster Walking Tour is cancelled Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21. Tours will resume on Monday, July 22.

The leak was repaired around 1:30 a.m. on Thurs. 7/18. The system is adjusting back to normal but there may be some residual water quality issues in the western part of the city & townships. Water may be discolored but it is safe to use. This will dissipate as the day progresses.

The Bureau of Water discovered a leak in a 12" main on Running Pump Rd. on Wed. 7/17 around dinner time. The 12" main is fed by the cities larger 42" main that supplies water to much of the city. Many customers experienced water quality issues, and possibly lower pressures.

Wading pools will be open regular weekday hours for children 18 and under. Conestoga Pines Pool will be open regular hours for all. Visit for more information about hours and costs.

Lancaster Rec Center at 525 Fairview Ave. will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 for neighbors who may want to sit in the air conditioned lobby or use the water fountains.

Penn Waste will begin collection at 4 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19. All Thursday and Friday customers should place their trash and recycling at the curb the night before.
