This sounds like the Canary Wharf Group playbook against safe cycleways

I’ve been using this ramp / jug handle thing on Kennington Park Road a lot. It feels safer to turn right here and wiggle through back streets than to try turning right further down + daring myself to cross five lanes of motor traffic on a More please

Yup, totally that. I use them on quiet routes. I am no way cycling around Elephant & Castle on one.

Am I right in thinking Bournemouth has been building out some decent cycleways as well?

I find when I’m using I often avoid routes I’d use on my own bike. Because I just don’t have the oompf you need to feel safe in lanes with fast moving motor vehicles. And I completely avoid west London which is toxic on a bike. Just like this thread

He’s right. London inching forwards on change. Manchester a bit too. Tiny changes here and there. Rest of the country (and most of London) is just about more cars and more roads and a lousy future for us all :(

Replying to @Labourstone
A depressing snippet at the start, with Transport Secretary Grant Shapps dismissing today’s report on reducing car use (electric or otherwise) with “I don’t agree” before setting out his plans for car charging points. Another Grayling?

Well worth listening to this interview with and @racheladred on the World at One today, on the subject of shifting people away from car use, and ownership. From 19:25.

Beryl Bikes, dockless bikes. See point below. Useful for boroughs that are worrying about dockless bikes to take note of this (see thread)

This is how does dockless cycle parking. So insanely sensible. And people adhere to it. A model for other London boroughs to copy?

Nice to see Vice reporting on the madness of building London’s new urban motorway despite Mayor declaring a climate emergency and talking about slashing pollution. An awful lot of Londoners still aren’t aware this is going on.

"In the long-term, widespread personal vehicle ownership does not appear to be compatible with significant decarbonisation." There is no getting away from the need to use less. Anyone who tells you that technology can preserve your lifestyle is a liar.
