Kids don't know how lucky they are to have social networking. When we were young we had to make our OWN insecurity & despair from twigs & mud

If you can't bring yourself to reject Thatcher's dictum, maybe you're not all that progressive.

Regardless of what you think about Venezuelan politics, can someone please tell the BBC that when the U.S tries to decide who is and who isn't the President of a country by just declaring it, this isn't a good or democratic thing. This mornings coverage is farcical.

I have a great idea lets get a load of rich and powerful people to fly to a Swiss resort mainly via private plane and then pontificate to the rest of the world about how to empower people, resolve poverty and fix climate change all from behind barbed wire to keep poor people out.

Someday Ben Garrison will be dead, but this will live on in history books as evidence of just how deranged white supremacy was in 21st century America

For those that say "talk to a Venezuelan" about the US-backed Coup in Venezuela, understand this: Venezuelans living in the US, and many on twitter, are mostly from wealthier fams. They arent SIMPLY Venezuelan. They have class interests that arent the same as poor Venezuelans.

this week we took on an unusual topic & one thats rarely framed in class terms. But, for me, state-sanctioned gambling is the quintessence of neoliberal rot, of an economic system entirely out of ideas & moral legitimacy scrambling to stay alive by fleecing vulnerable populations

small upside of Trump’s nightmare regime is all the moral pretense about human rights and democracy is stripped away and these acts can’t be viewed as anything other than naked power grabs targeting the country with the largest oil reserves in the world.

before reading their sanctimonious editorials on the importance of democracy recall both WaPo & NYT editorial boards supported the CIA-backed military coup against the duly elected Chavez in 2002. NYT explicitly, WaPo more subtly.

And it's not about whether you think Venezuela is a good socialist country or not- it's about people understanding the influence that the US and the CIA have on the world and conspiring to take down anyone who takes a bit of power away from the ruling class.

So, the US is enabling an actual coup in Venezuela. If you've been worried about Russian bots influencing elections here, I'd hope you express outrage about this.
