I think I speak for most friendly independent climate advisory bodies when I say I’d like to see this business sorted out sharpish. It’s very important that the UK is brilliant in the presidency and that Scotland is brilliant as the host for this summit.

Extraordinary letter from Claire O’Neill. Politics aside, it’s required reading for anyone remotely interested in the process

How soon before their public 'permission to operate' evaporates and the investors flee? Already behind the curve of history. They are trapped and know it. Will soon be the mega-Blockbusters of the 2020s (remember them?).

This is quintessential "honest broker." Misrepresent an inconsequential technical scientific discussion to portray good research as "bad science," thus positioning yourself as the reasonable arbiter in the middle. It's also complete bullshit šŸ„šŸ’©

In just 100 years, fossil fuel use has more than undone 5000 years of natural cooling. It's hotter now than any time in the history of human civilisation. We are catapulting ourselves out of the Holocene into uncharted territory. Current life on Earth is not adapted to this.

Ocean heat content in 2019 was the warmest on record by a sizable margin. Between 2018 and 2019 the oceans absorbed an amount of heat around four times larger than all the energy used by humans in the world.

It seems that have the power to stop, delay or at least interrupt the building of the huge Adani coal mine in Australia. On Monday they will announce their decision. Please help pushing them to make the only right decision.

Exciting news. The UK Climate Assembly, commissioned by six Parliamentary Select Committees, begins later this month. It will help us understand the public preferences for the steps to Net Zero. I've helped to design it, with some really brilliant people.

The smoke from Australia's wildfires has been reaching South America since early November (video here). But that the fires are still raging, so intensely, for this smoke to *still* be crossing the Pacific at such an amount is just astounding

Consider: millions of years ago our antecedents gave a massive sacrifice of their left hemisphere. We lost a tremendous amount of short term memory and replaced it with Broca’s, Wernicke & the phonological loop. But why? So we can—talk. Thus chimpanzees can do this—we can’t:
