Yeah it seemed to fit well. I ended up solving it in a bespoke way. It would be nice to have something that was well supported at the language level.

That's good hard-won knowledge that I don't really have. Most of my use cases are libraries or services where other teams need to be able to extend the system in some way.

Yeah. That's really what you'd want anyway. And allow protocols to be built on top of them.

That's not true. That's not all I want. But its high on the list.

All I want in elixir 2.0 is protocols with dispatch based on an arbitrary function instead of struct type.

Here's the video that closed out our 2019 conference! @ChrisKeathley's talk on "How I Failed to Live My Childhood Dreams" (despite the title!!) left us encouraged about thriving after failure and making our community what we want it to be. #myelixirstatus buff.ly/2uV7kpD pic.twitter.com/y4XgHxOaKE

Most of the time you're using piped functions as a surrogate constructor, you should use a map.

I don't know. People on either side still haven't figured out how to use a roundabout. I'm not hopeful.

I can't believe it's finally live! Thank you so much to @emjii, @wojtekmach, @sprsmpl for all the help and encouragement. I'm so happy to be able to share this with everyone 🎉 twitter.com/hexpm/status/1…

That’s been my experience as well. Vapor doesn’t preclude you doing that though. But not it also supports a bunch of other patterns as well.

People with more complex use cases can use it as a tool (or not). And probably understand the trade offs that they’re making :).

It’s still possible to build those sorts of tools. And I believe this version will be more appropriate for the majority of users and help encourage better patterns.

Thanks so much! I’m really happy now that those changes have been made. For whatever reason it’s been a real battle to get the design and api right.

Everything is simpler and more reusable when you just pass arguments.
