Navy officials say the service has “not named” its new class of frigate yet and the announcement below is a “mistake.” (John Mercer Brooke, the warship’s namesake, once served in the Confederate Navy)

We are working to correct the contract notice. It listed FFG 1 in error rather than the first FFGX. The new frigate has not been named, and there is absolutely no intent to name it Brooke. FFG 1 USS Brooke was decommissioned more than 30 years ago.

There was already an entire ship class that bore this namesake. Predeceeding the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate, is the Brooke-class. There were 6 units in it's class. (Pictured, FFG-1, USS Brooke)

Then may I suggest the name Samuel B. Roberts for the class. He was an uncontroversial military figure who died in battle, and ships bearing his name did important things.

Hey US Navy you might go check what President Eisenhower passed, you know the part that he declared all Confederate Soldiers and Sailors members of the US Arm Force and the fact you claim ownership on all CSA Naval Vessels
