I have a weird thing about $100-million pitcher contracts. Within this, Max Scherzer is in unchartered territory.

Max Scherzer is a three-time Cy Young Award winner. He might just be a Hall of Famer, too.

Incidentally, if not knowing how it feels to win three Cy Youngs is cause for champagne, I am spending my evening incorrectly.

Max Scherzer on how it feels to be in the elite company of three-time Cy Young winners: "I don't know, that's why I'm drinking a lot of champagne tonight."

Scherzer went out of his way to thank the training staff for this Cy Young. "I dealt with a lot of nagging injuries that maybe weren't at the forefront of anyone's mind...without them, I probably wouldn't be here."

His face totally changed and he almosttt smiled, then pumped his fist — even on a night like that. I’m sure Cy Young means a lot to him. I think something else means more right now.

After about a half hour in the clubhouse, and a lot of Scherzer fidgeting in dismay about that inning, went to say goodbye and added something like “now it’s time for the kid.”

A fun Max Scherzer story, while we wait. Some context: 1) He and his wife are expecting their first child any day now. 2) I have never seen anyone as beside himself about a baseball game as Scherzer after Game 5.
