Same can be said about much of science. Falsification of well-specified theories is misleading. In many domains, such theories are over-specified theories in that commitment to many aspects is premature. Theories are more like broad intellectual projects or directions. twitter.com/aeonmag/status…

Yes. As a theorist it frustrates me that some think theoretical work is only valid if proven true. IMHO, lot of theory work is about building understand over time. Some of it might be proven incorrect, but more important is that understanding improves gradually.
