Said this before but when I finished my new book Democracy for Sale a small part of me wondered if I'd been unfair on Britain. If it wasn't really as cronyist and kleptocratic as I thought. I was right, in a way. It's worse. Much, much worse.

Paul Dacre to run Ofcom, Charles Moore to run the BBC. Because Boris wants them. No process. No joke. This is what an oligarchy looks like

This chart from shows the widespread belief there is a simplistic trade off between health and the economy when considering how to respond to is false. Countries which best control the spread of the disease also have better (or at least less bad) economic outcomes

Zuck announced Facebook Oversight Board two years ago. It still has not met. It is not independent. Everything about it suggests goal is to protect the status quo. will address unmet need for constructive criticism of FB policies.

I urge you to watch the report that did about what Trump supporters see on Facebook. American democracy is truly in peril. And Facebook is the dark star at the centre of what comes next. We have no idea if will work but it’s surely worth a shot

‘Scholars, lawyers & political strategists find themselves in the uneasy position of intelligence analysts in the months before 9/11. Their screens are blinking red’ This is long, carefully written & absolutely terrifying

Andy, most people who cover disinformation hadn't heard of some of the people on the actual board, especially some guy named John Samples who wrote a book called "The Struggle to Limit Government." It's a weird selection of people who appear to be in no rush in an emergency.

Gosh. Facebook’s PR dude is pretty riled up about something that is supposedly entirely separate & independent from Facebook
