Great preprint from on female mouse song preference, using manipulated playbacks of male songs. Females do care, and mostly about temporal regularity! Finally, we know a bit more about what the relevant stimulus for physiological experiments could be. Congrats!

New in eLife: We characterized the function of the extensive projections from the auditory cortex to the inferior colliculus. Activating the projections directly, but not suppressing them or modulating cortical inhibition, affected collicular activity.

Many (all) species are sensitive to temporal regularities, learning and utilizing them seamlessly in different contexts. Ultimate case: human babies learning language. Check this beautiful work, where Catherine shows how mice are using temp regularities in their courtship beh.
