It’s stupid that Apple Podcasts, the owner of the largest podcast directory on the web, does not send push notifications for new episodes. All of the client apps poll to check for new content.

Yeah, you can set it to poll every hour — but it’s still polling.

Huh? I always get push notifications from the app when new episodes are available.

You get notifications, but they aren’t *push* notifications. The local iPhone app checks the podcast feeds at regular intervals, and presents a banner if new content is available.

To be clear, you do get alerts - but they’ll be delayed compared to Overcast which pushes the notification from the server.

It does send notifications, it just sends them slowly because its done client-side, not server-side.

It does for me. In fact I keep getting distracted and forgetting to shut them off. 😄

Notifications when the local app polls at whatever interval you set in settings, they are not push notifications from a server (which means Podcasts notifications are very delayed compared to say Overcast).
