Oh gotya. Hmm. Yeah, not sure. I guess looking at a dmesg log without blacklisting thunderbolt and seeing if you got the same error as me would be a way to confirm we have the same issue. But yeah, hopefully profiling reveals where the hang up is happening.

Ah yeah I don't see anything about thunderbolt in there. At this point, I'd probably try profiling it. There are instructions in my blog post.

Can you share your dmesg log that includes a suspend/resume that failed?

FYI, I figured out how to make palm detection more sensitive and it has basically completely solved phantom mouse movements/clicks for me. I updated my blog post with a new section on it: blog.burntsushi.net/system76-darte…

Yes. Buying a laptop to run Linux is kind of a black art unfortunately. Choosing unwisely can be a major time sink. So some part of it is invariably based on patchy guesswork. :-(

I use Intel for everything. Heard bad things about AMD chips and battery life. Would rather stick with what I know works well.

I've spent a lot more time than that trying to convince Ubuntu to use upgraded versions of packages in order to get bug fixes that were made months or years ago.

I'm sure Pop!_OS is nice. As i mentioned, if i were an ubuntu user, then i would consider using it. Arch just has way too many other advantages (like rolling release) to give it up. No need to dig into this on twitter. Sorry.

My dislike of nvidia has nothing to do with "ideology." I don't use it because myself and others I know have had bad experiences with it. Never had an issue with AMD. Been driving my triple monitor setup for over ten years.

I don't game, so I don't need it. In my desktops, I've been using AMD cards for well over a decade without incident to drive multiple monitors.

Yup so far so good. `sudo rmmod thunderbolt`. If you do use thunderbolt, maybe try that but then `sudo modprobe thunderbolt` when you want to use thunderbolt. Could maybe even add a systemd hook to do it automatically on suspend/resume.

Yeah I did. Or at least, it is working so far. I was able to reproduce the problem via a Pop!_OS live CD too. (I have an open support ticket with system76 about it.) Mostly I was just asking to see if you found another resolution and/or to confirm my own findings. :)

My hero! A thousand thank yous! AND it even looks like it supports arbitrary RGB color codes, so I'm not limited to the preset colors. ^_^

Thanks. Did you have the suspend/resume issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

Oh nice. Does that mean there is a ways I can programmatically interact with it via, say, /sys or something? If I could do that, then I could fairly easily cook up some shell scripts to have it do what I want.

And like, I don't have any need for an nvidia chip either. None of the system76 laptops with an nvidia chip are laptops I would want anyway. If I were okay with an nvidia chip, then I would have more strongly considered an XPS 15.
