My loss is your gain: had to patch another Fomu. For multiple reasons USB D- wasn't connected (D- pogo pin in wrong location / D- solderball not connected) and so I made another sample to help locate the test jig issue. This time I bypassed an eyepiece to film it - enjoy! 🤪

Supercool... took the reworked board and put it into an X-ray machine!

How many fomu boards are having this issue? Is it a problem with the board layout or something else?

My understanding is it is a small design error in the pre-production run. The intent of the rework is to 100% validate all the other aspects of the design before doing a volume rev for mass production.

Is this an example of rather extreme rework or is this pretty typical?

Difficult but not extreme. I had a bug on NeTV2-EVT that required cutting multiple layers to eight traces and patching resistors at very specific locations on GHz-speed wires. That was harder. And in college I held a job soldering where we routinely did even more difficult work.
