Phew, just helped @xobs rework a Fomu. Had to rewire a ball under the CSP...which entails removing the CSP, applying UV soldermask to the pad, tacking fly-wire *next* to ball, then reflow a (new) CSP. Took two tries, but it seems to work now. Grain of rice for scale on left. 😅 pic.twitter.com/t4KwOpvAFm

How long did that take? It would seem that changing the pcb might be easier if you’re patching at that level.

I think I woke up a bit after noon today and we had it working by...3PM? and in between we went to lunch. Now that I know how to do it, if I had to reproduce it, maybe 15-30 minutes. It's feasible, just the yield is 50/50. Defs cheaper than spinning a new PCB for a couple units.

Where'd you get such big rice 😂
Seriously though, that's some pretty slick rework.

The rice is from hackerfarm Japan. @freaklabs does know how to grow a healthy crop, but actually, these rice grains are shorter than the typical rice found in the US, it's similar in size to sushi rice.

I like the precedent. I think grains of rice should be the default scale item in microscope photos from now on...

A micro-scale banana, one could say. I henceforth declare 2019 as the year of “grain of rice for scale.”
