i did not really belong in the first grade but i would have been two years younger than everyone else in the second grade. so they decided I should just do what we'd call today "self directed learning" bc otherwise i was bored & disruptive

yeah i mean i didn't even know it was there and i was a curling obsessed kid who had never seen it live in my life and just happened upon it the first time my dad took me to a BGSU hockey game!

I truly never really considered that the U.S. might win gold in curling, ever, in my lifetime. I'm still not totally sure that it happened.

Later when my dad would take me to BGSU hockey games I spent more time watching people practice on the sheet than I did the hockey. The sport was simultaneously exotic but completely natural to me.
