Isn’t that what fuels players to want to continue using said “intrinsic” actions? Interesting to think about, but I wonder if w/o some “extrinsic” reward, be it progress, a good view (AKA surprises), or any sense of accomplishment the player would lose interest at some point.

And if you’re learning something about the story, aren’t you progressing? Or after fighting X enemies, don’t you think the player wants to feel like they l’ve accomplished something by doing that “fun intrinsic action,” thus progressing?

Are you describing a fault w the concept of “progress” in games? B/c shouldn’t all game mechanics or interactions w the game be intrinsically rewarding? Isn’t that the nature of game design? We want to give the player tools + challenges for them to apply those tools on?

May I ask, if there’s a reward involved with the task, is it still “intrinsic?” Even if the reward is “a better view” or “a nice view” after the satisfying, “intrinsic” climb? Seems like the thread moved from your initial premise & made me wonder if rewards turn an In into an Ex?

This is 100% true & never talked about. I was always amazed how unoriginal and seemingly in-synch 100’s of interviewers would be. Why don’t they want different material than their competitors? And from my perspective, it was always refreshing to chat w someone w a unique angle.

I liked Thirst. I think I liked the premise more than the film tho.

Tweet limits. My bad. Memories of Murder (aka MoM), and another film Mother. Both by Bong Joon Ho, the Parasite dude with awesome hair.

And Srping, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (I hope it translates better in Korean 😬), is a total recommend too. Loved that film!

I watched Parasite 3 times in the cinema btw. And it was better each time. The set-ups and payoffs - and how everything is tied together, is pretty perfect. Oh, and yes I also liked My Sassy Girl. 🙄 I’m THAT kind of Korean cinema fan.
