That's a good question. There are a lot of benefits to the sidecar mechanism (like control of egress traffic, providing application firewall type functionality, etc). That being said, I'm generally a fan of providing "good defaults" and letting folks then choose their own path.

For more context what is referring to is the time the headshot photographer (no joke) said "Uhhh.... Would you take your shirt off?" Not being one to be one upped on getting weird I shrugged, said "fuck it", and went for it.

If you decide to dig in further, I've been collecting a bunch of EdgeOS/UniFi data () and am active on their forums fixing endianness issues in their Perl code and rabbling about fixing bugs in their kernel modules.
