Lesser known fact: Google Cloud Run () is still API. You can export your apps as Kubernetes manifests, deploy to any Kubernetes cluster with Knative. $ gcloud services describe foo --format=yaml > svc.yaml $ kubectl apply -f svc.yaml

Interesting question and replies. Do you have other examples? HTML DOM, Salesforce, and Access are a few others from the replies. I’m interested because: domain expertise + programming = superpowers.

It’s no longer pervasive, but at one point HyperCard was a good example of what you’re describing.

Worth a read. Makes a compelling case that the environment where this works is teams with no power differentials (unlikely) and no diversity (crippling). Includes a simple fix! Add confidence estimates. H/T

My best pro tip for introverts at conferences is: be a speaker. It sounds wild, but you get time to practice and plan ahead of time, and then people will approach you and you'll already have something to talk about.

Serverless with Cloud Run is awesome sauce! And you know what makes it better?? Commandless! Add a deploy button to your README so users can deploy a repo in two clicks:

Thanks! It really helps to hear that from others. I still worry that I’m not very good at it, though. :D (I’m enjoying playing with words/endorsements in this context, but Imposter Syndrome is F-ing real.)

Not even kidding. :) I added it several years ago as an experiment. I think it makes folks uncomfy to say that about someone? Or it breaks our ideas of what endorsements are for, or something. Anyway, I find the whole endorsements section super awkward and this is how I cope. :)

I’ve been trying to get LinkedIn endorsements for impostor syndrome. But I must not be good enough at it.

One of my most controversial software opinions is that your sleep quality and stress level matter far, far more than the languages you use or the practices you follow. Nothing else comes close: not type systems, not TDD, not formal methods, not ANYTHING. Allow me to explain why.

I put together a fun example of using the newly-announced Google Cloud Run service+Twilio to build an app that tells you what’s in the pictures you text to it— and scaling to 0 when unused. (Thanks to for the original version of this app)
