Mathematics PhD candidate from Poland with a bunch of side interests. Searching for useful patterns of indexicality.

Hmmm. That's interesting. Patterns of indexicality seems to me like a good way to put a finger on something important though.

For me it makes sense to make a distinction between times of slow persistent grind and times of intense creativity, when the fruits of the grind are ripe. I guess sleep 8h during the grind and allow yourself to abandon sleep in the second case?

This raises some interesting questions. Are thoughts indexical? Are mental states indexical? Does it make sense to think about beliefs/theories as patterns/schemes of indexicality?

This was super clarifying for me. I often used the term "representational", to refer to the way rationalists see language and thought. "Indexical" might be a good candidate for meta-rationalist counterpart.

I also like relative entropy of q with respect to p since I like to think of p as a reference measure.

Definitely not annoying, quite the opposite. I was just impressed at how much you have progressed in your knowledge of Ethnomethodology, you seem to have some useful link to share every time it comes up.

Dammnit Ryan, seems like you're really pumping your Ethnomethodology skill tree.

Submited my thesis. Went to the gym afterwards to deadlift. Celebrated afterwards with GF. Started reading more on bio-emotive framework and NEDERA in the evening.

Amazing result. I think there will be a lot more interesting things coming out of the intersection of math, computer science and physics. At least that's the direction I want to take with my research.

I'm finishing my PhD thesis now in a bit of a rush, so I am a bit underslept and low-key angry a lot of the time. I can sense it in my face when I meditate. I noticed yesterday how people on the street seem to have a bit of "better not cross this guy" reaction to my face :P

I have heard a bit about that, but I have never dived deeper into it. Philosophically there might be something interesting there, but mathematically I am just not interested in trying to avoid the law of excluded middle.

I would be willing to agree that realism has a kind of dualist eternalism flavor, and I share your dislike. I wonder what David would have to say about that.

But the world is not a discrete structure! And I think RR is mostly about finding the right discretization, not about dealing with exp. increasing set of possiblities in some set discretization. For that we have pretty good ML, like Monte Carlo Tree Search used by AlphaGo. (2/2)

On the off hand, I wanted to comment that I don't like the term "combinatorial explosion" in this context. Usually in math it means that there is some discrete structure, and the number of combinations grows exponentially with the number of elements (1/2)

I was also thinking about how causal statistics with final causes could look like. Nothing interesting so far, but I keep coming back to this question.
