I haven’t done an article like that. I suppose Thomas Merton might be someone to look up. Or other ppl from non-Buddhist religions who do zazen.

"If there is a time when [body & mind] are one reality, and another time when they are not one reality, then the Buddha’s teaching is false. If we think that life and death are something to get rid of, we will commit the sin of hating the Buddha-Dharma." - Dogen (Bendowa)

"Even if we wrongly imagine that 'mind becomes eternal by getting free of the body' is the buddha-wisdom that is free of life and death, the mind that is conscious of this understanding still appears and disappears momentarily, and so it is not eternal at all." - Dogen (Bendowa)

That’s true. Folks at Tassajara monastery said eucalyptus trees exploded during the fire up there.

I could sit full lotus twice daily 7 days a week up until I was over 50. After that it began taking a severe toll on my knees, to the point that walking was difficult. So I switched to Burmese.

It’s interesting for Dōgen fans. But it’s very difficult. More so than Shobogenzo. Shobo’s chapters are longer. He develops themes over several pages. In EK he makes very short poetic statements that can be confusing.

Oh man. I heard about that. California gets fires too but nothing like you’re getting down there! I’m glad you’re safe.
