Not dead. Google uses lots of LLVM so it's worth it to Google to make sure Go also can use LLVM things when needed. Especially for various analyzers.

Too easy. Won't get enough clicks. Might as well switch languages.

Google shut down Google Plus, citing a privacy bug. I hope this isn't what leads to them shutting down Takeout too. Takeout is currently the only remaining way to get photos out of @googlephotos (a tedious, slow way). They already shut down its two APIs to download originals. 😥 twitter.com/internetofshit…

Because it's on paper a great laptop, especially for how cheap it is. And I kinda assume any laptop will have Linux problems so might as well fight a cheap one. (if I get into a physical altercation with it, it won't be too expensive...)

I read several such happy tales before I bought this laptop. Didn't realise it would require such a recent kernel and also that I'd hit other software problems too. But of course.

And the "fix", per the Internet:
$ xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode -t string -s "xpresent" --create
(bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?… .... "It seems the problem was related to xfce compositor.")

Turns out this Motile M142 laptop's hardware is only supported in Linux as of like last week or something and latest Ubuntu locks up regularly with it. So trying Manjaro which is apparently a thing and I hear might work. Super impressed... pic.twitter.com/txDE1xCWAj

Great! Yeah, we should talk at some point here. I think there are probably some mutually beneficial things we could do.

1) To use Go instead of swift.
2) to reuse more code in more places

Sometimes it's best to just cooperate with the platform, especially when you're already doing weird things that are only marginally supported in the platform's canonical language as-is.
Plus we're already linking in Go along with Swift. That's enough languages in one binary. :)

I guess it's time to more than superficially learn Swift.

Yeah, apparently there's a separate license for writing network code, so I had to join some team that had said permission.
