Americans have a need to feel like they are 100% in control over a contagious illness. Giving the masses a powerful placebo (an old t-shirt over the mouth) is easier than convincing them they are not all-powerful masters of the natural world.

Those Scandinavian countries assuredly have more honest media. When the media is as dishonest as it is here, well, the results speak for themselves.

When you’re doing something new - like figuring out a virus / quarantine / economic shutdown - focus is important. Nagging everyone all the time dulls the reaction. Focus on protecting the elderly because that’s what the data indicates.

The irony is, liberals used to love Scandinavia, and wished the US had similarly enlightened policies.

There is creepy, disgusting and pervasive ‘safetyism’ permeating the US. It controls and infantilizes people at the same time. People need to reject and rebel.

Thank you for sharing. Playing Devil's Advocate. The Danish one may be reason for some people in the USA to wear masks. Too many people go to school or to work sick in the US. And IF you know how to wear a mask properly, it may be wise to wear them when you work with slobs.

It is because scandinavian countries have the situation very well under control (apart from sweden perhaps). There is so few cases that wearing a mask now makes no real difference. US on the other hand has completely different situation.
