Wouldn’t it be a more effective demonstration of understanding if students figured out what they need to do to solve a problem, or tackle an issue, rather than being “commanded” to do something?

You’ll love “Make Writing”. Such an engaging process for making writing a hands on experience. Applicable to pretty much any subject and task.

I hope we’re not going down this road with and Lang/lit. Ss are already so focused on targeting criteria for analysis that reading for enjoyment, enlightenment or entertainment become secondary. How can we ensure our lit courses are ?

Fantastic workshop on service learning with the OG - Kathy Berger Kaye. Encouraging Ss to follow their skills, talents and interests and to seek to understand prior to engaging in service.

Do exams cultivate feelings of fear and anger, or warm heartedness within our Ss? How can changing the way we assess our students help improve their mental hygiene?

I wish people wouldn’t conflate being forced to pay attention to a thing with “learning” about that thing. As if mandatory exposure to something over a period of time means that *any* learning is happening.

Are we providing the time, space as opportunity for students to learn in personally relevant and meaningful ways? An interesting look at learning through time and how that might inform future decisions.

What’s best for students should always be the reality, unfortunately this is often not the case. There are lots of schools who are at this point - We just need to keep pushing to make bring these ideas to the mainstream.

Why do we force learning into arbitrary chunks of time? Is it for the students’ or the school’s benefit?

Authenticity that is actually authentic. Ss making a video via a commission from the theatre - Not for their teacher to look at and provide a grade.
