I use photoshop and a wacom cintiq, or a pen haha. pencil or pen and paper is good to begin with. I think I would recommend copying other drawings (simpler ones at first) with the paper laid as close as possible to what she's copying, and encourage her to look back and forth ...

The idea of drawing almost the whole environment before the character instead of kinda both at once or the character first is a brilliant idea. Honestly dude your work is so impressive
