I have too many thoughts for a tweet, so I wrote a letter about what this community means to me. These past years with you have been the adventure of a lifetime.
Twitter might not make it, but these dogs aren't going anywhere. ❤️

This text, out of the blue, means:
a) wrong number
b) someone’s eavesdropping on the team
c) the butcher got hundreds of pounds of steak and divvied it up among the dogs. They bark when they see his truck but are quiet while they chew. He loves watching dogs eat.

Wildfire, the dog who suffered a broken leg after a hit-and-run snowmobile crash during a training run a year ago, ran in the Beargrease again this year -- and his team finished third!

What does survival truly mean? That's one of the concepts & I explored around her novel Small Game. We also talked about reality TV, crafting endings, writing a page turner, non-fiction storytelling & first novels.

Grinch and Kiwi are besties now and play all day long when they’re not running. Here’s Kiwi getting upset because Grinch came in for cuddles instead of chasing him around.

The most wholesome thread you'll see today. (Maybe even this week/month/year.) Clem is a very wise sled dog, and his advice is worth your time. twitter.com/BlairBraverman

There is Dr. Heather Hadley who is on the handling crew for Sarah Keefer this year. She is sending off Wildfire on the #beargrease2023 trail! She’s the vet who helped him recover after he was hit by a snowmobile last year.

Severely broken leg healed, Wildfire returns to the Beargrease, potentially the Iditarod. (I fell in love with this dog.)

This farm is SO CLOSE to covering late bills from December! I know Jan is coming to a close, but unless some insane luck hits this farm I need to earn all the money I have here through online sales. I have pet portrait spots, logo design spots, and soap and meats! PLEASE RT!

Have you considered just burying old bones in front of the gates & letting them dig out a path?

We're barely halfway through January and more anti-trans laws have been proposed than in all of 2022. We're tracking at least 158 introduced bills so far. This is more than 2018-2020 combined. This is what a movement to eradicate trans people from public life looks like.

I just wanted to address this part of things because unfortunately the cycle doesn't go on forever. It's like how folks in the disabled community try to remind folks that being able-bodied is temporary. All things change, eventually. But change is not necessarily the end.

But, eventually, it becomes important to find joy in new or different things. Maybe your old thing, modified, maybe something new. Thinking here about sweet Boudica and how running needed to look different for her after she was injured, or how the retirees adapt to free runs.

I want to add one thing -- melancholy, perhaps, but true, I think -- and that is: our bodies are aging all the time. Our limits and abilities change, including our body's ability to bounce back from trauma. And sometimes trauma can make returning to "normal" impossible.

Since I started graduate school, I've had such a hard time reading for fun. I'll pick up a book, start it, and never finish it. That was not the case with 's Small Game. I sat down last night with the intention to read a few pages and by the end of the night- done!

And a reminder that toughness can take the form of patience, or acceptance, or hope.

Blair if you get a blow torch you could blaze a path to get across the yard. I am sure it would refreeze pretty quickly,

Thank you all so much for your incredibly kind words about Refried. ❤️ Things are peaceful in the retirement yard. Hari hasn’t been hungry lately but today he’s all about that venison. Jenga’s here for cuddles and Grinch is diligently making his rounds. Sending you all our love.
