I live and work here in Shanghai and, in particular, have a special fondness for the birds of China. [All images are my own].

There are many Himalayan Bluetails wintering in the Eastern #Himalayas between the border of #Tibet in Western #China and Arunachal Pradesh in North East #India. This image of a male #bird was captured just as it took flight in pursuit of an insect [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/bI77PmgXVa

My bird fieldguide describes both these Adjutant species as “grotesque”. So, yes, I agree with you, my fieldguide does too, and no doubt others will agree with you too. Though, after looking at them for some time, I did start to appreciate their appearance a bit more!

This Lesser Adjutant image was taken at the same dump location in #Guwahati, #India as its cousin the Greater Adjutant which was posted a few days ago. This #bird though has a darker iris, white skullcap and lacks the neck pouch of its larger cousin [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/axxNGpUTuD

This #bird, the Rufous-breasted Bush-robin, has a range extending from #China into #India and #Bhutan. The male, photographed just south of #Tibet, has royal blue upperparts, with a paler blue supercilium and tail, and orange-rufous underparts [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/JYkNyYWebq

The Greater Adjutant, a member of the Stork family, is an endangered #bird with a 2008 census reporting just 1000 birds. It is a scavenger by nature and this image was taken at a rubbish dump in #Guwahati, the capital city of the #Indian State of #Assam [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/AaopiaB6gp

I am not surprised this is being mentioned. The press has already reported that the wild animal trade in the Wuhan market was at the core to this crisis. I’ve heard people mention possibly live snakes sold in that market were the main carrier but that has yet to be proven.

This Maroon-backed Accentor was sitting fairly motionless perched on this branch just above the ground in this #Himalayan forest in #India close to the #China border. It did not call either and so it was lucky that this secretive #bird just caught my eye [birdinginchina.com] pic.twitter.com/ILKu2FWVft

The male Ward’s Trogon has pink on the belly, undertail, forehead and bill alongside a blue eyering, a flash of white in the wing, and a maroon breast. Today is Chinese New Year, the most important festival in #China. However, celebrations are mooted as the Chinese Government and its citizens does its best to contain the virus to make this beautiful country safe [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/Q0gR16Dttu

A few months ago in the #Himalayas this Fire-tailed Myzornis, a speciality #bird of this high altitude region, posed beautifully for the camera. I arrive tomorrow once more for a week-long trip to further explore this region’s awesome avifauna [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/HNtyrgHZeG

This #bird, the Grandala, is a speciality of the #Himalayas, mainly at mid altitudes. This image was taken in the #Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, at an elevation of 4,200m, just after dawn, as it was bathing in this montane pool [birdinginchina.com]. pic.twitter.com/mZb3mx2tvd

think we have a few things in common (a) bird photography and (b) even though I am a Londoner I’ve been living in Shanghai for 10 years but still listen daily to LBC including your show. My real passion is photographing birds from this part of the world. Glad to connect with you.
