Happened to get eggs? Taking eggs of wild birds is illegal, right?

I haven't seen that name before. I agree that 帕氏 must refer to Pallas. But I haven't often seen the scientific names of birds directly translated into Chinese. In many cases there are official ornithological names and other names in common usage.

The Chinese name for Brown Dipper is 褐河乌, hè hé-wū, literally translated as 'brown river-crow'. An alternative name is 水黑老婆, shuǐ hēi lǎopó, literally translated as "water black wife".

A wonderful reminder that cuckoos don’t stop for any flight bans.

A Crested Kingpie? Incredible timing... Photo of a Magpie and a Crested Kingfisher taken by my good friend, Han Xuesong, at Shidu in Fangshan District, Beijing.

ONON, the Mongolian Cuckoo, has flown another c400km south-southwest and is now in Eastern Zambia. BAYAN has edged back north into MALAWI. No recent signals from NAMJAA but we think he's ok in Tanzania.

Hi Kevin. Are you sure your bird isn't a White-throated Kingfisher? Looks better for that species to me (lacks the white collar of Black-capped).

Thank you to Chris, Steven, Elsie, Claire, Zoe, Amber, Yiwei and Albee. The best article I have read about the sequencing of early events in Wuhan. When this is over, lessons must be learned.

The Chinese name for Long-tailed Shrike is 棕背伯劳, zōng-bèi bóláo, literally translated as "reddishbrown-backed shrike". In some places, shrikes are known as 虎不拉 hù-bu-lǎ, "tiger cannot pull", possibly a tribute to their strength.

Wetlands are vital to people and nature, but they are in crisis. Tomorrow is . 50 years of rapid development have wiped out over half of China’s temperate coastal , but new govt policies indicate the tide is turning:
