Couple particular Alex Cora postgame quotes stuck out: -- 'I know the usage is there, but everybody has been used a lot. We’ve just got to get the job done.' -- 'Everybody is fatigued in the bullpen. We went through a stretch there where we had to use everybody. We know that.'

Cora -- 'We noticed that (Barnes is) walking more people now – Workman, too. It’s the nature of 162 games. Now we’ve got a stretch here where we’ve got a few days off where we can probably reset the bullpen and get him the next two days off and be ready for Saturday.'

Cora -- 'Everybody is fatigued in the bullpen. We went through a stretch there where we had to use everybody. We know that. The stuff was there. (Barnes) was throwing 97, 98 with a good breaking ball. That was a good at-bat. He just misfired with a fastball.'

Cora on Rafael Devers hitting 2 -- 'Good at-bats. Under control, too. It seemed for a while that he was swinging at everything, and his average went down. Now he’s back to controlling the zone and putting good swings and going the other way. We might go that route.'

Cora -- 'We’ve had chances to start piling up wins at home and we haven’t done it. Sometimes we don’t start the game fast. There are others we haven’t finished. Like I’ve been saying all along, we just need to get better all around.'

Alex Cora -- 'We’ve been playing a lot of close games and we’ve been using a lot of people. Today Chris gave us six. Obviously it wasn’t perfect. We got the lead in the eighth and (Barnes) was the guy we needed today. It just didn’t happen.'

Sale on no home wins in 2019 -- 'I don’t know what it is. The last couple years I’ve felt like I’ve done pretty well here. We always have good crowds and pitching at Fenway is always fun. For whatever reason I just haven’t been able to put it together here.'

Sale -- 'I feel like I’m out there trying to shape pitches with how I’m throwing it instead of letting the natural movement take its course. That’s obviously on me. I’m out there trying to make pitches move in ways that they shouldn’t and I’ve gotten away from things.'

Sale on his fastball velocity in the later innings -- 'I got back to doing what makes me successful and just let it eat. Once I got a little pissed off and started getting after it, it changed a little bit – the dynamic of the game. A little bit of that and trusting my stuff.'

Chris Sale -- 'Rough again. I’ve got to find a way to get out of the gate better. The last couple times out early in the game I’ve just put us in a hole. I’ve got to find a way to get out of that.'

Barnes on his first thought when Abreu made contact -- 'S**t. That sucks. If I’m going to be blunt – not good.'

Barnes -- 'It’s not like I can come out here and say I missed locations with everything I was throwing and got hit around. I thought I executed pretty much how I wanted to. The only pitch I didn’t execute, honestly, was probably the homer Abreu hit.'

Matt Barnes -- 'I executed damn near every single pitch I wanted to. The one that didn’t get there, he hit a home run. That’s tough to swallow when you execute 90 percent of the time, and the one time costs you the game.'

Lousy start to the second half for the on Wednesday. The first half was an inconsistent one. There is plenty to suggest the club can -- and really, should -- improve over the next 80 games.

Matt Barnes -- 'I didn’t do my job. Offense did a phenomenal job of coming back and scoring three in the eighth. Then to give it up like that is tough.'

Correction -- Barnes has a 10.39 ERA on no rest (10 earned runs, 8 2/3 innings). Didn't factor the out on the caught stealing.
