The whole peak of Mt Cordeaux is spectacular when the king orchids, grass trees, and giant spear lilies are in bloom. We're lucky to still have these giant spear lilies in the wild - many are gone as a result of land clearing and illegal seed/plant removal.

Looks a lot like giant spear lillies - Doryanthes palmeri, or something related to it? These pics are of big old ones growing wild on the peak of Mt Cordeaux (QLD). They look spectacular when in bloom and hang over the walking paths.

We only have one species of here - the Sudell’s Frog (Neobatrachus sudellae). They’re a burrowing frog that are adapted to living in the . They spend years buried under the ground, waiting for rain. Once it does rain the desert sounds like this 🐸

Sometimes, there are little rays of sunshine. This is the choc-mint variety of those rays. This little frog got through a bushfire... 💪🐸🔥

Prancing crypto; Decilaus from near Lake St. Clair, Tasmania. The ranges of the many species in this Australian genus (even the ones that SHOULD be included there) are relatively poorly known. Holds for most terrestrial invertebrates.

Pink Flannel Flower (Actinotus forsythii). Seedlings of this plant may become evident in a week or two. But will anyone be out in Blue Mountains parks tasked with looking for it?

How do you talk with young people about bushfires? I've found some great resources for teachers, school leaders and parents. You can find the links here
