Looking forward to playing in the Washington International tournament 7/27-7/31. Enjoyed it last year & hoping to improve on my 50% score in the "Premier" section (2nd highest group - the Championship section has all the Grandmasters in it). Ranked 22nd of those entered so far.

I’m partial to Thinking Inside the Box, but feel like I’ve learned a lot from all. “Calculation” is a treasure trove of worthy exercises.

The haze and heat and humidity have left for awhile and it’s a beautiful evening in Indy.

Kinda surprised none of them guessed Victoria Falls. Final . Great game otherwise, though.

Oh, no! A Slaughterhouse Five clue on tonight was a triple-stumper?!?! (A clip of James Franco reading ‘Billy Pilgrim has become unstuck in time.”) Boo, contestants! 🙂

Interesting category, and now I want to listen to Tim Curry’s reading of “Journey to the Center of the Earth”

I saw a YouTube video of how to assemble its smaller version. Didn't look too bad. (famous last words...)

Looking forward to a fun evening of IKEA furniture assembly. (Hopefully when they say “requires two people to assemble” they’re just talking about ”normal-sized” people)

So, the “kid” I got to play (and get crushed by) in the Fischer Random tourney at the Reykjavik Open this year is now finishing ahead of Magnus Carlsen in an online tournament? I’m only a little surprised...

Totally agree, and he was especially great with the post game interviews of the youngest players.

5 more stories read this afternoon for the readathon, including the pictured “River of Riches” (damn, that is some small print!) and my fav of the weekend, John Updike’s “The Other” about a man whose wife is a twin, and the ‘baggage’ that follows (for him anyway)

My reading this time around has featured all *hardcopy* books. Usually I’m the opposite for readathons, wanting to keep everything available to read on my devices so I can stay “mobile”; I figured it was so hot this weekend I’m just going to stay home on the sofa/recliner

Three more stories down so far this morning, Thomas Hardy’s “What The Shepherd Saw” was probably the pick of the litter, though I did enjoy Updike’s “Poker Night” and even Conan too.
