Justice and I had a great time attending Judge ’s juvenile drug court graduation ceremony this evening. Important work to help kids get back on track. Hats off to the dedicated treatment team.

It varies. West Virginia’s bar is small so we all know each other. Many folks I’ve worked with/litigated against for 20+ years call me Beth out of sheer habit. They often correct themselves but it’s not something that bothers me.

Great question! We discussed this with lawmakers several times in January. Here’s the current implementation plan, which is posted on our website.

Good question. Yes, if a retired justice has taken senior status and is available to hear cases. Justice McHugh is senior status but not currently available. Justice Neely is not senior status (he is practicing law).

Great advice from When I started, I did a lot of listening and observing. It takes some time to find one’s “voice” from the bench. In contrast, today I asked questions in every case. Don’t force it — it comes naturally. And good luck ⚖️🏛👩🏼‍⚖️

Today we welcomed Judge Blake and Judge Tatterson from the circuit bench to fill in for two justices disqualified in cases. In WV, the Chief may appoint a circuit (trial) judge to sit in place of a justice who is recused. Other states handle it differently.
