has all the benefits of Medium (plus way more, honestly). We’re an open source company and have sensible business models currently and in the works that don’t require us ever having to bait and switch the end user like Medium has. Just saying 😊

This is one of the reasons I've started publishing my content on my website first—and then only using Medium as a canonical link / for distribution

If you don't want your content on Medium to not end up behind the paywall, make sure you uncheck this box when publishing your stories.

That's exactly what I've been doing—this has been been a big push (not the only factor) in deciding to use my own website as my primary publishing platform.

Yeah my entire Medium feed feels like it's behind the paywall.

I think in the 6 months I've raised the font-size from like 14pt to 18/20pt on basically EVERYTHING. My eyesight is mostly fine, but it's so nice to not have to squint to read things.

Been coding quite a bit with my font size super large in preparation for a talk I'm doing...and I gotta say, I kinda like the bigger font size.

Working from home periodically is so helpful in a commuter city. I'm not full-time remote, but even just having the flexibility to do it periodically helps.

Something that's been on my mind lately is how we can use our code to practice empathy. Instead of "good practice"/"bad practice", ask "Is this empathetic"? Here's a quick piece I wrote on that:

What's the thing in programming where we are most blind to its costs? I think it has to be code reuse. I bet if you had someone go through your issue tracker and label every bug that could ultimately be traced back to the pursuit of code reuse, the results would be horrifying.

I don't remember where, but I heard someone call it "armchair perf analysis" once and that image has always stuck with me.
