Vice-Principals are gems! The fact that BC VPs teach at least 50% - many teach much more, as much as 100% (how?!) - makes them all the more remarkable. From one such gem came this gem “..how can we help our clients when there is no identified safe shore?”

Overheard today: “Fortified by the bad-assery of having been a frontline emotional worker through the whole of this thing … I choose to run headlong into the dangerous waters, armed with some survival skills.”

Today wrapped two full days, meeting with the Board of Directors - many of whom carried with them the voices of our rural communities’ school leaders. Their stories are as diverse as the landscape, and each must be heard.

Overheard today: “Educators living & working beyond Hope in Rural BC can feel small and voiceless.” The experience and context of our Principals and Vice-Principals leading in small communities of BC must be gathered, understood, and considered by decision makers. Place matters.

Covered in pimples, including on my chin now thanks to the mask, stressed, worried about my students...BUT...I haven’t been this in love with my job for a while. Sometimes change is just what was needed! I forgot you could be exhausted and not feel defeated and broken down...

This is what my family and I would do on this weekend in October: Victoria Marathon. This year, it will look very different; but family and gratitude will still be at its centre. Happy Thanksgiving, BC.

Heidi is a secondary in Burns Lake, and Dylan is a K-12 Principal in Granisle. They love their work, and when the work is done, they love a trail ride. The muddier, the better.
