Oh, and the $500m number cited is not correct. I can’t disclose the actual number, but it’s not $500m, despite what “sources say.”

We also want to create experiences with Airbnb Olympians. Imagine learning a sport directly from an Olympic athlete.

Airbnb started to provide housing for events. We launched for a design conference in 2007, then provided housing for numerous Olympics (London, Rio, etc). This is the reason many hosts started hosting.

Airbnb is partnering with the Olympics until 2028. We hope to have (1) hundreds of thousands of new hosts for the games provide housing, (2) create thousands of Olympian Experiences with athletes as Airbnb Experiences hosts, and (3) provide support for the Refugee Olympic Team.

I want to be clear — we are not infallible. We are a platform built on a foundation of trust. We need to continue innovating on trust to make it harder for the bad actors. The trust of our community is our top priority.

We are expanding manual screening of high-risk reservations flagged by our risk detection models first to North America and then globally next year. This will help stop unauthorized parties before they start.

We are introducing the Airbnb Guest Guarantee. Starting on 12/15/19, if a guest checks into a listing and it doesn’t meet our accuracy standards, we will rebook them into a listing that is just as nice — and if we can’t, they will get 100% of their money back.

By 12/15/20, every home and every host on Airbnb will have been reviewed, with the objective to verify 100% of listings. Trust on the Internet begins with verifying the accuracy of the information on Internet platforms — this is an important step for our industry.

Airbnb is in the business of trust. We are making the most significant steps in designing trust on our platform since our original design in 2008.
