Another mechanism for digital quarantine: a wearable bracelet with an app, similar to an ankle bracelet in the US for tracking parolees. twitter.com/QuickTake/stat…

The joke, for those w/o context…
- Millionaire politicians have been going around making broad statements like “billionaires should not exist”
- But they just demonstrated they couldn’t code an app that counts to ten
- Thus demonstrating why at least some billionaires exist 😉

Houston built v1 of Dropbox
Camp built v1 of Uber
Murphy built v1 of Snapchat
etc
Of course, there's some poetic license. Not every tech billionaire codes v1 themselves. But they all have the ability to get a working app out. And that, it turns out, is harder than it looks!

Billionaires exist because they can code apps.

I cannot imagine how bad this will be if the #coronavirus goes viral in San Francisco. The complete failure of city government is no longer a joke. pic.twitter.com/I5yrwuxsne

If this scientist is right, you don’t want to be entering an airport restroom anytime soon.

Yeah. SARS was in 2002-2003.
China was much weaker then. And I think unfortunately this will turn out to be at least 10X if not 100X+ more serious than SARS.
The combination of will and way means China is going to drive radical technological innovation to fight this.

It does feel like the coronavirus crisis is the starting gun for this decade, in the same way the 9/11 attacks were for the 2000s or the financial crisis was for the 2010s.
By the way, that original quote is from old VI Lenin himself.

Even after the virus crisis passes, Chinese society will be transformed and they will have accelerated the pace of several dozen technologies.
Telemedicine, medical robots, diagnostics, antivirals, vaccines.
But also remote work, VR, supply chain auditing, and so much more.

There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.
China is now at war with the #coronavirus. These are wartime headlines. And the short term losses are already too great. But in the end I think they triumph by willing the future into the present. pic.twitter.com/rOa5hWXYLx

Feels like the #coronavirus crisis will accelerate many pre-existing technologies that weren’t yet widely deployed for social reasons.
If the hygienic way to get food to quarantined people is to legalize self-driving cars and drone delivery, the Chinese government will do it.

Another possibility is that every Chinese delivery company buys Oura rings (or the equivalent) for their drivers to constantly self-monitor their temperature, as an improvement over paper forms and self-reporting.
