If a founder did something illegal, I would expect the legal settlement with the remaining stakeholders to include no residual ownership; at the very least no voting power.

I'm still following for another day maybe. I am honestly waiting to hear a statement (from someone not secretly named Freeman) as to its real purpose and values.

I see what you did there. I guess you’ll update us as more sample data becomes available?

I just realized something about that old Trump inauguration photo. Those all-white areas weren't actually empty. The ground was dark and those all-white areas are the people wearing sheets.

If the source Guardian article is correct, the company stored actual fingerprint images in the DB, not just one-way hashes. Deserves massive class action lawsuit for gross negligence. Government officials contracting with the company should be sacked, as well as its executives.

Companies do irreparable harm by leaking immutable biometric data. No fine can possibly make up for such a breach. And not even an apology?

Missed one. :) It'll be a ton of work to put together an hour of valuable content, so I'm not pushing too hard.

Great editorial. I agree HIPPA is a promising (but expensive) avenue to pursue. Here's some more on eye tracking devices and what's coming next. If we don't address this now, it only gets exponentially worse from here.

If the data we constantly shed is truly one of the best ways to understand our bodies — if it’s really that insightful — then why shouldn’t we treat it the same way we treat an EKG? writes

Wonder If the “reality is a simulation” folks like realize their theories eerily resemble old religious myths. "In the Bible, for instance, God suddenly makes humanity speak in many tongues; i.e. He resets His simulation with new parameters."

Yes, a simulated universe could be designed to prevent proof without invalidating the experiment. OTOH, it would be worse IMO if we convinced everyone we're in a simulation and it DIDN'T get reset. "Now what?" more thoughts:

A simple way to break it down is: 1. Are you trying to discover something new? 2. Are you trying to convince your audience of something? It's often both. #2 pays the bills.

The deadline for voting is coming up, so please vote. There are some great proposals. I want to especially drive this home: The future is in OUR hands (not the companies). We should take a sober look--not fanboy, not panic--and follow some practical steps to best DESIGN it.
