This admission will carry more weight with the jury as opposed to lingering concerns about the thoroughness of the investigation. The State would have a field day parsing through this should she take the stand which she likely won't unless it's Hail Mary time.

If jurors see any of this some will think he is faking such peculiar behavior. Also, given the gravity of the charges and what he did, even if some believe he is genuinely "crazy" it won't necessarily mean they find him legally insane.
