Shoutout to the 16-year-old brat burping in public like she still were 2 at the decades-old coffee shop where I'm working from in downtown Madrid.

Hay canciones cuya versión original nunca será superada por ningún cover, y "Lucha de gigantes" de Antonio Vega/Nacha Pop es una de ellas. Así que dejen ya de hacerle versiones (chafas). Gracias.

Curiously enough, in addition to writing this and another masterpiece, "Palinuro de México," Del Paso also dabbled in genre writing with the suspense novel "Linda 67," set in -- of all places -- San Francisco.

Which is to say, I'm usually struck by books written by underdog authors, those reviewers hardly write about, those whose authors are not social media stars or haven't been tokenized by the pub industry or the media.

I am usually disappointed by the book du jour everyone's talking about that given year, the one by the usually young debut author who's supposedly brilliant and unique and blah blah blah, the one that makes all the lists and is a finalist in all the big awards.
