Apparently, he also dismissed the risks of smoking several times over the years. He now has lung cancer. People still listen to him.

The windows store was a neat idea, but there isn't much penetration. Having to write C++/CX or C# also scared a lot of devs off (namely me). Also, I really didn't want to hook my OS up to Microsoft account, so I avoided that for the longest time...

Why can't we engineer methanophillic bacteria to live in cow stomachs? Presumably the acid is a huge problem, but maybe we could feed cows a methane-consuming probiotic? It would be doubly neat if the bacteria consumed methane and then died off to provide further nutrition?

Sounds like that Soviet captain that was prosecuted for abandoning ship, after he was blown from his ship by a German shell

Although I think (guess) I disagree with you on bail reform, I do agree with the line of questioning. Neither side can participate in a reasonable discussion without being able to clearly state what *would* change our minds.

Refugee ship Struma is floating helplessly in the Black Sea, crammed with 769 Jewish passengers fleeing fascist Romania. British govt. in Palestine refused to allow them to land, fearing to encourage more Jewish immigration, & Turkish authorities set the ship adrift.

I was thinking more like only complain about it in new code, to try to slowly change behaviors? Not sure why I'm even still trying to discuss this since I agree with you šŸ˜‚. You're right, they are ridiculously broad šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I would love to see an April fool's paper posted suggesting that in some way. Along with requiring the Unicode ā‰  for not-equals, which I've thought of writing for years as a joke šŸ˜‚

Yeah I figured it would kinda defeat the purpose. My other idea that I thought would be even less plausible would be to try and figure out how old the code is, and then emit warnings only for new code. Not really possible for a lot of reasons, but it would kinda work?

(Kinda goofy, I agree, but kinda curious to see how it'd turn out)

I was kinda thinking that we could come up with some kind of really dumb herustic to weed out the noise, like ignoring everything defined/declared in a header file, or something like that? I bet that would cut it way down, but also bring it to programmers attention?

I've wondered for a while why nobody has written some clang pedantic warnings for these. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

George Washington took teeth from slaves. Anesthetics hadn't been invented yet. It's not known if he put them in his own mouth or sold them to dentists. Records claim he "paid" for them, but that doesn't mean it was voluntary. Our founders had a good idea, but they were the pits.

yearly reminder: when you pay turbotax money to do your taxes, you are in part paying for the tax system to remain complicated enough for turbotax to stay in business. taxes for most people could take 0-5min but turbotax lobbies against it
