I wrote a post about decentralized social networks, comparing federated and peer-to-peer protocols through Mastodon, Matrix, ssb, and Aether.

So far the main problem I see with p2p protocols is that they require you to install custom software to participate. I'd like to see more p2p protocols that work in a browser to facilitate transition from legacy web to p2p (ship UI+logic via server, but get data from p2p storage)

Mozilla's experimental libdweb extension is designed to help p2p protocols run in the browser: github.com/mozilla/libdwe… @gozala

Great post. Any plans to discuss trolling/abuse on these various protocols?

I discussed what techniques each protocol currently uses to handle bad actors under the moderation sections

The only technologies I've seen doing that are webtorrent, @databasegun and rare experiments with DAT. Browser plugins (like metamask), custom browsers (like beaker) don't count ;)

Nice post. Thoughts on on-chain architectures like Steem, Peepeth, etc?

I think “On-chain” warrants a category of its own.
