I suspect trying to define what a good service is will be as difficult as defining what a good movie is. That’s not to say a book with a view on it isn’t valuable - it’s as valuable as any book on film criticism, for example. But it will always be a PoV.

The obsession with trying to define service design is largely a result of its difficult place at the nexus of business and design, a relationship that is constantly shifting at the moment.

This simply isn’t true, Lou. Plenty of other fields of design have this level of academic “reverence.” Architecture probably the most. And there is way more academic literature about (real) product and graphic design than SD.
