As expected, those 500 new jobs in San Diego are really to poach engineers and establish a rock solid modem team here in San Diego.

I'm pretty sure has poached their fair share of engineers already with their offices in San Diego as well. I suspect Apple is just doing the same to have them develop their own IP. California is the state where non-competes cannot be enforced, so they go for it.

This does not shock me at all, MS does the same thing, they have seniors create small startups then teach these small amount of people how MS things are done then absorb them to the MS team. Having Apple come in and offer these things they are only going to absorb and release.

Replying to @Google @amazon and 4 others
This is a typical tactic. With , and expanding their presence here in San Diego, these kinds of poach jobs are only going to increase. Also, has a lot of modem engineers in San Diego. and probably do too, both have offices.

Totally realistic. Samsung & Huawei from built their own an SoC /w modems. But they need QC to stop patent trolling them.
