Or at least one would think a philanthropic benefactor might step up with funding to help them increase to one late night a week etc. (but that doesn’t happen too often in Austin, I gather…and UT is pretty lousy about funding)

I wish they’d stay open later too; 5pm is common in Texas. I believe the constraints are the staffing costs (still need like a dozen guards/docents to keep an eye on the giant space), and evenings are when they have private events that lead to $$$ (but even 6pm would be better!).

I’d call it “upstream crudités” — not really a pun, just think it’d be a good name (maybe better for an album or a band). Crudités platter could have a sign: VIEW RAW For broccoli: WORKING TREES Or: DETACHED HEADs of broccoli? For pb+celery+raisin snack: “ants on a reflog" !?

I saw a Medium post recently from someone who wanted to share that he’d been doing lots of raw FormData API processing of inputs before AJAXing…only to now make the discovery that HTML has this native <form> element thing that allows you to POST data without JS! Magic!

Sad news. Here’s a good writeup from 2001 about the history of the Night Hawk / Frisco Shop:

We’re obsessed with Dining with the Chef in our household, but no one else seems to know about the show! So many yummy things to (try to) make!

Good one! If you really want to be depressed about being a programmer, here’s a huge, fun list of other such things:

Bad news: I’ve been thinking about Avenue P½ since my 6th grade spring break trip to Galveston

Maybe those are the REAR streets? On Street View they appear to just be alleys. Apple Maps doesn’t include them, so everything’s confusing.

See also: Galveston, TX, where you have problematic mixed-data street names like Avenue P½ (and even Avenue P½ Rear which I gather is a separate, additional street!)

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

I had to deal with a cold-calling sales rep whose fifth email started with “I hope you can appreciate my persistence” — NOPE.

this is the least of it, but Anthony Bourdain had one of the most insightful responses to allegations -- in his industry and others -- of any man in public life

Gutted by the loss of Bourdain. His enthusiastic curiosity, empathy and kindness when listening to people from all walks of life, an ability to weave politics and cultural discourse into TV-friendly travel fluff, and a surprisingly reflective masculinity; a rare male role model.

25 years on the Internet! On June 7, 1993, joined the World Wide Web and was at the forefront of Internet development. Only about 125 web servers existed globally, two of those on the UT campus. The UT Home Page (here's a snapshot from '97) appeared soon after.

Designers, developers should read this. This stuff is hard, and it is complicated and calling people out for not knowing it like you do is toxic and unnecessary.

Likewise, glad that you’ve find your place in NOLA — and belatedly: sorry to hear about the sucky injuries, but your recovery and life/job/art reassessment has been inspirational!

I thought it was pretty cool that they both later released their double albums (The Fragile / To Venus and Back) on the same day (purposely, I’ve always assumed).
