Yeah, so, today didn't get much better mental health wise. Spoke with my cousins and aunt, which was lovely, though (family ❤️), and I'm now giving up for the day with a fail-safe remedy: Only Fools and Horses (and a cup of tea).

It's an "anxiety has peaked and it feels like it's the end of the world" kind of day mental health wise. Even yoga didn't help much. I'm going to try a bit of mandala drawing and if that doesn't work: sofa and Schitt's Creek it is.

Ugh your bill "reminders" are needlessly aggressive and annoying. As someone who pays my bill on time every month, I don't think I need FIVE reminders across email and SMS starting from more than a week before it's due.

How times have changed. In my 20s, I'd still be at an afterparty right now. In my 30s, I'm sat here enjoying my coffee and looking forward to yoga.

I'm trying to become more conscious of this again, as well as the things I'm buying and why I'm buying them. It's the very least I can do right how, for both myself and the planet.

What's this got to do with my hair? It boils back down to how consumerism taps into our need to be liked/accepted. I always felt I looked better with straight hair, but who knows what bullshit beauty ideal I am buying into with that. Well, I don't want to be slave to it anymore.

I'm not suggesting you sell all your stuff and live like a nomad (although trust me – it's damn liberating), but I just think in the state we find ourselves (climate emergency, anybody?) we ALL need to become more conscious of what we're buying and why.

It's made me even more aware of how consumerism taps into our need to be liked and accepted by people. It convinces you that you *need* that certain something to feel better/look prettier/be part of a group. But it's actually BS. We need very little. But that's bad for business.

Travelling long term taught me many things, but the main lesson was that we need very, very few things to get by. Even though I've carried this lesson back with me and try to only buy stuff when I actually need it, I've also noticed some of those good habits slipping away.

In the spirit of trying to accept and love myself just the way I am, I've been leaving my hair curly of late, something I haven't done consistently since I was travelling long term in 2014/2015. Back then I straightened my hair the grand total of one time in nine months.
