Good to know that the State House is focused on the issues that matter most to Floridians.

Important case today--N. Carolina Supreme Court hears argument on racial discrimination in jury selection. NC is only southern state not to enforce laws prohibiting jury discrimination. Hope Court sends strong message that discrimination won't be tolerated

After the Florida Supreme Court opened the door to allowing non-unanimous death sentences, I’m relieved to hear that the Legislature is not walking through it. Doing so would’ve been a huge step backwards for justice.

Great story about how retired Army Lt. Colonel Brian Butler built into an award-winning company. Proud to have Brian in our community, and even prouder to call him a friend.

Federal appellate court judges “sharply questioned...how the law essentially creates 2 classes of citizens: those who can afford to pay, and those who can’t.” Exactly.

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again. -

More discretion lets us avoid overly-punitive sentences that waste taxpayer resources w/out improving public safety. Investing those resources in rehabilitation & re-entry training will actually reduce crime & make our communities safer.

It's a good sign that Leg is talking re reform, but talk doesn't make our families safer or our system more fair. Talk doesn't protect victims or help neighbors w/ addiction or mental illness. We need action, which comes from local prosecutors.

Florida's practice of suspending drivers licenses for unpaid fines & fees criminalizes poverty. Smart justice is about solving problems, and this is a problem we can solve. Support SB #1328 and HB #903.

I've visited several concentration camps. The sight of train tracks, rooms full of children's shoes, & gas chambers are seared in my memory. I keep a stone from Auschwitz as a reminder that "For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing."

Can’t believe Kobe news. My wife went to high school w/ him, and I remember hearing stories about him my freshman yr of college before he was a household name. He worked his tail off and became a legend. He gave generously to help kids & fight homelessness. RIP.

Our homicide prosecutors, who evaluate the legality of officers’ use of deadly force, participated in use of force training simulator. This training gives us a better perspective on officers’ split-second decisions and a stronger foundation to uphold the law.

The Florida Supreme Court reversed course but my moral compass is steady: the death penalty is reserved for the most aggravated, least mitigated, worst of the worst 1st degree murders. It should be applied fairly, consistently, and—most of all—rarely.

In a unanimous vote, BOCC adopts resolution to support passage of SB 1328/HB 903, bills to ensure ex-offenders have consistent and reasonable payment plan options. State Atty Warren believes we should do all we can to decriminalize poverty.

"Human trafficking exists; it’s real & it’s ugly." Great news re grant, & great to have lead the regional task force. But the hard work lies ahead--to catch & prosecute traffickers, help victims, & eradicate this modern-day slavery.

Proud to work w/ to end the crime of "driving while broke." We disproportionately burden poor people w/ financial penalties then criminalize nonpayment. Suspending licenses to coerce ppl to pay is ineffective, unfair, & wastes taxpayer $.
