In case you didn't read that correctly, yes, Oakville has a monument commemorating those who served with Adolf Hitler's 14th SS Division.

It does get tricky if you try to paint everything as good/evil. To many countries in Eastern/Central Europe, the Nazis were bad, the Russians were worse. In 1932-33 Stalin starved 3-4 million Ukrainians, so you're likely to welcome pretty much anyone who drives them out!

Canada let in a lot of Nazi war criminals after the war. I recently read a thread from a Jewish person who’s Holocaust survivor parents moved to a neighborhood in the Toronto area that was populated entirely by former SS. This monument is disappointing but not surprising
