Mother of 2. Theatre director sometimes. Overly opinionated all the time.

The Cindy Sherman exhibit at the national portrait gallery is completely wonderful and inspiring. The winning combination of real artistry and humour and rigour and interrogation.

Overheard at Whole Foods, Silver Spring Husband: I didn’t know there was a women’s World Cup. Wife: say it louder so everyone knows what a dick you are

Nothing makes me more tense than someone telling me to relax

‘Notes to self’ by is astonishingly brave and important. Every essay painfully relatable. Despite growing up with an alcoholic parent I’ve never sought out literature on the subject but reading about her experience of that relationship was pure catharsis. Thanks Emily

Yes! So this. It’s the familiarity of being ghosted, both personally and professionally that resonated so strongly with me reading the women’s account. How hard is it to just be upfront and say ‘sorry, you aren’t ready for a project of this size yet, how can we make this ok?’

So as well as dominant power dynamics, sexism AND gaslighting I feel it is important to mention that we have a problem with FACING TRICKY THINGS HEAD ON as a result of the patriarchy. And theatre, the seemingly liberal artsy environment, is not and never has been immune.

My eldest child turned 8 today and bloody hell she’s brilliant. What a privilege it is to watch her grow up.

My kids school are doing a whole thing about greatness at the moment. Which already makes me feel a bit tense - great according to who? Yesterday when my eldest said to her teacher that michelle Obama was great, her teacher said “no, her husband is, not her”. WTF?!

Not to keep banging on about it, but made me hopeful for the future of film and also made me really look forward to the day when I can sit down and watch it with my kids. What a treat that will be.

That’s what I did this afternoon and I wept and laughed my way through the whole thing in a glorious premenstrual sweet fuelled blow out.

I just want every woman I know and love to go and see . Too much to say about it in a tweet. Stuff about feminism, the female gaze, changing the parameters of body image, sexuality, and just being pure joy, validation and heartbreak all at once, so I won’t even try

Immensely proud and grateful for all the brilliantly talented actors I had the pleasure to work with on The River and the Mountain. The future is so bright with all of you in it.
