Writing Tip #98: Be proud you’re a writer - tell the people in your life that you write! When they ask how much money you make, laugh with them. Then, write their name in a notebook and ask them to make sure you’ve spelled it correctly. Shut the notebook with a snap. Smile.

It’s so unhelpful. And frankly, pushes people into even MORE helicoptering which is so wrong. Kids need independence! Time to think or veg or do dumb things. They’ve been fine for the whole of time and history and this shaming is awful.

Hell yes, every kid I knew who didn’t get to watch TV absorbed it like crack later.

Under two even, in our case. My kid loved movies at 2 1/2 and we were like, you know what, I can shower if she watches Moana again.

In conclusion: provide (well-paid) nannies for all or let my kid watch Frozen for the third time today without judging me

Related: most of Gen X/older Millennials grew up on HOURS AND HOURS of trash tv every day and we seem to be fine so I’m not out here sweating the two hours of some crappy mermaid show my kid watched today so I could take a power nap

Under five? Guess what: sometimes a little screen time is the only way a working parent can cook dinner or get five damn minutes to themselves. Make childcare free and universal instead of judging parents who are just trying to survive, thanks.
