I feel like audio books land in a different place in my memory than paper books. Do different books give the best impact via different media? Like I bet audio books are WAY better for "reading" poetry.
Anyway, the replies here are great :-)

I've done The Hobbit both ways, and the songs in the audiobook were actually sung, and the effect was totally different. On paper I skimmed them for the gist and moved on. In the audiobook they were worth going back to replay again.

Mixed results for nonfiction, but audio books are WAY better for fiction that involves dialects and accents. Terry Pratchett’s Nac Mac Feegle an especial case in point.
